Finding Your Balance: Tips for Busy Entrepreneurs

Balance is my word of the year—it's my goal, and honestly, it’s also a bit of a struggle. Like many entrepreneurs, I used to jump into work the second it came up. But I’ve realized not everything is as urgent as it seems.
This year, I’m really being intentional about balancing work with the stuff I love. I’ve already started time-blocking several afternoons just for sewing, and once I’m all healed up from my recent back surgery, I’ll resume exercising three to four times a week. It’s definitely a work in progress, but I can already tell that finding a good balance is making me feel more energized and creative and has increased my productivity.
If you’re like me, struggling to nail down that sweet spot between work and play, here are some simple strategies that might help.
Set Firm Boundaries:
Decide when you’re working and when you’re not. Just because work is there doesn’t mean it needs immediate attention. Keeping to those hours stops work from taking over your whole life.
Treat Personal Time Like It’s Important:
Block off time for your hobbies, exercise, or just to relax. If it’s in your calendar, you’re more likely to stick to it.
Focus on What’s Urgent:
Not everything needs your immediate attention. Figure out what actually needs to be done right now and what can wait. This keeps you from feeling like you’re always in emergency mode.
Remember to Take Breaks:
It’s ok to take a breather. Regular breaks help you recharge so you can be your best self at work and at home.
Regularly Check How You’re Doing:
Balance is ongoing. Make it a habit to check in with yourself to see if you’re spending enough time on what really matters. Adjust as you go.
For me, balance isn’t about doing everything—it’s about doing the right things at the right times. What’s one small thing you could change this week to help find your balance?
Here’s to finding balance—one step at a time!
